One tail light not working (right)

Post by priapism »

It's not the bulbs, I've replaced them with ones I know work (they work on the other side). The brake light works as does the signal. I don't see any fuses out. Is there something I'm missing? I don't see how it could be the board the lights go in since the signal that sits on the same board works. Or am I wrong?

I swapped with the other side's known working unit and that one didn't work either. Only the brakes, no regular tails.

When I was working to fix the blinker I heard a tiny *zap*, I wonder if I shorted something, but what? I can't figure it out.

Rear parking lights, right? That zap you herd was a short...thus leds me a fuse is blown or, the short burn the wire and no contact. Check those things, and if necessary, re-solder the wire thats burnt with new one.

It may be a good idea to look at the shunt RSH5 in the cargo compartment (its location on page 24 of the following document).

Be patient it takes time to download.

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downloads/2001_S60.pdf

You have the circuit diagram on page 48 (PDF) and it is unit 20/33.

It can be wrongly inserted or burnt. Smell it to see if it hasn't overheated. You can interchanged it with RSH4. The trouble will move to the left if the unit is defective.

Oops, it WAS a fuse. There are two and I only checked one. Great info though, thanks!

Right rear fog lamp out and right rear indicator light out. Bulbs are fine and fuses are fine. Any ideas on what the issue is.

I had this happen to me once so this might be worth checking.

You will need to remove the tail light lens to confirm, but the metal contact to the bulbs shifted due to plastic tabs breaking that hold the metal plate in place. The metal plate is held by many plastic tabs (not screwed in). If a few break, the metal can move and you don't get a good connection. Sometimes, just removing and installing bulbs can can cause a weak tab to break.
