OBD code P1670

Post by paplip »

Has anyone have access to the OBDII code P1670. I just got that on my 2000 V70 and there is a strange grinding noise when driving above 30mph like if there was something touching a tire.

Thanks

Check out the connections on the boost control solenoid. The code refers to a power stage issue, which in the OBD-I cars, has to do with boost control.

I have a non-turbo V70. Is the boost control on turbo? If I do have such a thing, where would it be in my car?

Thanks

My volvo S70 (2000) did not start and my mechanic checked it. on the ODBII, he got the code P1670, however he is not equipped to determine what does this code mean. Is there anyone that could help. By the way 10 minutes later it start as if nothing happened. From that day it does the same thing every 2 or 3 days, Is that a serious problem?

I usually use this website but it doesn't list a P1670 for Volvo. I have had good luck on here as well as with my Actron scanner.

The original post is old, but the code P1670 refers to the anti-theft system:
Code Make Description
P1670 Volvo Immobilizer Control Module Communication Error/Code Error

the last response ties in with my experience. I have just got a P1670 on my V70 Classic W reg after suffering an immobiliser fault,. (runs for 1 second then flashes the arrow on the dashboard lamps, taking the key out waiting then inserting it the other way up and making sure it is pushed in to the steering columnthen starting usually gets it runnig). I believe this is the transducer in the ignition lock not sensing the key properly, so I am loath to change them as they are expensive and the steeing lock is a bit of a pain to get out.

Hi guys,
just a brief reply on this one, my engine management light come on today plugged in the OBD which gave me two codes;

P0171
System Too Lean (Bank 1)

p1670-powertrain

couldn't find the meaning for this code for volvo's and it seems some other people cant either, I know on fords this indicates P1670 is communication error between the PCM(powertrain control module) and the IDM(injector driver module).

Also someone said it might be a immobilizer fault, i have had a start up problem i related it to the cold mornings and the dirty maf sensor, that would make sense if i take the key out and lock then unlock with the fob it starts fine.

P1670 is the immobiliser aerial contacts needing cleaning as they oxidise, it could be the aerial is shot but normally disconnecting the aerial and cleaning the contacts on both the car wiring and the immobiliser aerial will cure the fault, the immob aerial is located around the ignition switch barrel it is a plastic ring.

The normal behaviour to accompany the P1670 code is when the car fires at start up and runs for about one second before shutting down.

For P0171 I would start by looking for a vacc pipe split or that has come off, check all vacc connectrions to the inlet manifold and where the pipes connect to - Mike
