98 S70 keeps shifting between Winter and Economy

Post by Thenemyk2 »

My 98 S70 glt keeps shifting between W and E drving modes at a one second interval. The TRACS and ABS lights are also on. Does this car need a new ABS module and could the module be the issue with the transmission?

I would start with that then move to the PNP switch.

Unless it's a late build 98 with the 99-2000 unit on it, the ABS isn't going to cause the flashing trans arrow and s-e-w lights.

start with the pnp.

I replaced the ABS module which got rid of the ABS lights, thanks for the rebuilt module by the way Matt it works great. The car stopped flashing the shift light for about a week, but will come back on periodically. You also recommended changing the PNP switch, is that an easy fix?

It's about a 4 on the skill level scale. Just takes a little time, about 2 hours. The big thing is to see where your alignment on the selector is and make sure you put the new/rebuilt one in the same spot because a lot of people don't and have problems starting and with reverse lights.

Takes me about 1.5 hours now (mainly because I'm slow). You pull the battery, the air box, the PNP connector plug loose (which is the hardest thing in the proceedures to do), take the cable linkage off, then unbolt the PNP switch from on top of the transmission. There are step by step instructions here.
