Fuel Economy Numbers

Post by mecheng »

Is there a log of people's fuel economy numbers?

1998 S70 T5 with 223,000km

I just wanted to post that I got 7.9L/100km or 30mpg on my trip to cottage country. Relatively flat, 23°C, 2 other passengers: 1 baby, 1 wifie, stuff in trunk.
A/C on very low, constant speed 120km/hr

The 24mpg rating is way too low for these cars. I'm happy with those numbers. This engine doesn't feel the weight, unlike the LPT. Going up hills is no problem, plenty of power. It really excels when cruising at 50km/hr or so and then you punch it: goes like mad.

A lot depends on the gasoline and wind (and the foot).

Chicago gets nasty smog gas, only sold in this epa region. In rural Wisconsin my mileage jumped by 15% after a local fill up. Suddenly my car meets EPA estimates, 1st time in the year I have owned it.

Once you get over about 55mph, air resistance is one of the main sources of drag and, (iirc) increases geometricly with speed from there. You didn't mention how fast you were going. If the wind is strong, it will affect your mileage as well.

If you put a good tune in it, it will pull the same way at 85 mph that it does at 50 kph. :)

Good luck.

I get 28 mpg out of the T5 on highway....I think it did 29 mpgwhen it was younger. On hilly terrain upstate with AC working, it falls to 25 mpg

My new to me P2 kicks butt on economy..34 mpg up I87 at 75 mph

Looks like a skewed bell curve with 30-31 getting the most votes. Those EPA numbers are BS. I had my A/C on and I had to keep up with traffic which in my area is 120km/hr, anything less and you are causing a traffic jam.

Thanks, I'll post there
