Big brake brackets... and cost to upgrade to 302mm rotors

Post by nzvlnr »

I am doing a front brake job on my 99 s70 t5 and I ahve the 16 " Petro wheels. I measured my brakes and I see that I have the 280 mm ( 11 ") and I wanted to upgrade to the 302mm rotors and just add the bracket ( already have the stainless lines) but I dont want to change the wheels.
On the IPD they have the brackets for for 297 EACH!!!!What the???
On the http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-c ... rs-8602456 website they offer the stock volvo bracket for the calipers for 59 bucks each.
1) There was a guy that wrote a review on IPD that he used 16 " petro wheels with the big brake kit and did not have to change his rims. But I am not going to pat 600 bucks for two pieces of metal and some screws....
2) has anyone used the fcpeuro brackets with the 16" petro wheels? Why wouldnt I be able to use these with my 16 inch if the IPC brackets allow the 16 inch wheels?
WHat a rip 600 for two brackets...crazy....they sell the whole big brake kit for 560......

Petro or Perfo? I've never heard of the first, but then I don't really care much about the different wheels and whatnot. I like mine.

My car has the big brakes on 16" Perfos. Came standard with them.

Call Tasca Volvo and ask about just the brackets.

Last time I checked, OEM brackets are less than $50 each. There are two types, each with a different part number, the only difference I believe are the finishes on them. 8602456 or 8251319 both should work.

Thank you guys for the input. I will check with the "Stealership" and see what they try to gouge me for the brackets.....But to be clear, the brackets are buy and bolt on.......... and then just get the 302 mm rotors?
I got the short end of the stick with the brakes as my car is a not an R but it is a T5!!!
jblackburn....My mistake ....My wheels are just like IVIUSTANG in the picture above

I believe he has Columbas on his. Similar, but more swoopy and they won't fit the big brakes.

These are Perfo's, probably what you have unless someone changed them:

In that case, yes, just change the brackets and rotors and you'll be good to go.

Also change your brake lines, as the length on the 280mm brakes are shorter than the 302mm for obvious reasons. Otherwise when you turn your wheels it will put alot of stress on your brake lines.

Where is the best place to get the rotors FCgroton or IPD (They are so expensive ...ipd)
Next will be:
rims
springs
ECU - Who do u recommend for this?
I have replaced:
all struts + shocks with HD Bilsteins
Front cross tower brace
stainless brakes lines
turbo heavy duty compressor valve and controller valve
PCV system....
I was in an accident in Jan 11....I was the one doing the rear ending and they totaled the car....over 6 k in damage ( no air bag deployment all body work)...anywasy the insurance paid me and I put the car back together until my "skills" ran out and I handed it over to the body shop....You cant even tell it was in an accident!!!

I just picked up a `96 850 Turbo and was attempting this conversion with the #8251319 Volvo bracket, and the stock Ate caliper...it seems in no way correct - it seems to feature a sliding pin design more like Girling calipers I've rebuilt. I assume I now need the other bracket mentioned afterall? The #8602456
