Anyone know a good writeup or have any pointers on replacing the starter in my 1997 S90?? Unfortunately my cellunoid went bad & won't engage the starter.
Does the whole intake have to come out, or is there enough room from underneath to wiggle it out? Just seems like not much room to remove the bolts.
thanks
Bad starter

Do a search on this topic. Plenty to choose from.

I see a new starter like yours sells pretty inexpensive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Starter-Vol ... 416205d7ce
I would change the whole kaboodle (not just the bad solenoid while I am at it.
Give me a couple hours before I get back to my home office; I will look for the procedure in VADIS and post back as soon as I can.
Thanks.

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Sorry I could not locate an actual dedicated procedure in VADIS, just generic instructions; I cannot speak from experience (never worked on your MY), but the following looks like a presumably simple and straightforward task (taking about 1-1/3 hours). To remove:
1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
2. Disconnect positive lead and connector of starter relay (the solenoid).
3. Remove three (3) fixing bolts from starter motor (top bolt also holds the cable supporting clamp).
Slide starter motor to rear, turn and lift upwards.
To reinstall:
1. Transfer locating bushing to new starter motor.
2. Reinstall in reverse order.
3. Torque bolts to 50Nm.
You may have to be patient and just take your time. However, I wouldn't believe that "the swedish engineers built your car around the starter"
Hope this helps.
