Hi guys,
I need some serious input on my current situation. I bought a S80 2.8 1999 with 155K almost a year ago. The price was OK, although I would say today it was a bit high.
In the beginning it was running fine, except for the dying battery.
During that year, I replaced the timing belt, outer ball bearings and a couple of other tiny repairs (rear power window stopped working).
Right now, I'm at the point to either sell (or dump) the car or invest.
I did not drive a lot, it's close to 160K now and I have to either replace the struts (one mechanic told me) or the lower control arms and lower ball joints (the other one's telling me).
Besided that the serpentine belt, two tires and a few service items need to be added to the list.
From the electronics side, this car is rock solid!
The transmission is changing gears smoothly and I have until 2013 for the next inspection. I will need to hit the road more often this year.
So here's the question: Keep investing and crossing fingers that it will run for another 1-2 years or dump it? What's your experience with the S80 at this age?
The front is squeeking like nuts, not even when driving on a bumpy road. I guess I will consult a third mechanic to see what side he's gonna jump on.
1999 S80 2.9 - keep investing?
