'92 240 Door Panel Clips? Two Different Types?

Post by MalibuLx3 »

I'm looking to replace some of the broken door panel clips on my '92 245 and after removing the door panel, I discovered 2 different types of clips.

Image

The yellow ones were found in the yellow circles in the picture below. I know these ones are correct, and I'm working on finding more of them.

The white/gray clips are identical, except for color, and were found along the top of all 4 door panels, location circled in red below.

Image

Should those clips in the red circle be different than the rest of the clips, such as what I found? They set out further than the yellow clips. Or, do the yellow clips also work fine in this position? I want to put the door panel on correctly and with the right clips so it stays put and clips don't break.

Also, does anyone know anywhere to find these clips reasonably priced?

VADIS lists 12 yellow, 2 grey and 2 white but doesn't specify where each goes. However, in my experience there is little difference in the clips and they all do the job they are designed to.

To buy them you could try eBay. I have had clips for all makes of car from eBay dealers and they have all worked as advertised.

Our sponsors at the top of the forum list them at various prices. From what I have seen IPD is the most expensive. The part numbers you need to check on myVolvoPartsOnline and VolvoWholesaleParts are:
Yellow 3540497; Grey 1264963; White 1364206.

Thanks for the reply Bill. So when you say all the clips do the same thing, can I just pull some from another panel, and and put then in the missing places (replace gray/white with yellow)? Is the offset of the clip not really an issue, or do I have to replace like with like?

I ask because I'd like to get my door panels back on, but don't mind having the rear tailgate panel off while I wait for the clips to come in.

Thanks for all the help

It would appear that the clips in the tailgate are different from those in the other doors.

I have always bought trim clips as after-market units, regardless of the make of car, and have never had any problems with them. I have used after-market clips on the 940 and 850 and they have all been the same colour although the originals were different colours. I have been searching through my archives for a U.S. company which supplied me with clips for a Jeep and who do make them for just about every U.S. car manufactured. Unfortunately I must have deleted the info but I am sure a search would turn up somebody.
