Cooling fan relay question 1990 gl b230

Post by IL740gl90 »

Hey all,

I own a 1990 volvo 740gl 4 cyl sohc b230 f blue with tons of mileage but don't know cause the sensor in the rear axle crumbled in my hands...But on to the question. My cooling fan switch popped out - we all know that grommet dissolves over years. Anyway replaced it but now my electric fan is not working. Check the relay and the connector crumbles - ok now what - what pin goes where and probably need to redo all the connections too but what goes color wire goes on what pin??

So any ideas greatly appreciated. ( Car runs fine but car is generating heat, not losing any coolant- water pump teeth may have cavitation - but my fan was working now with new switch it doesn't. My chilton and swedish breaks say connecting wires to switch does not matter- that part is all good just pin readout and boom good to go.

On a another topic 740 4 cyl non turbo owners - fuel pressure regulator and misaligned throttle position switch and will have your car running ugly, burning gas, vibrations, replacing o2 senors, throwing codes etc. Check those two items early in your diagnosis.

thanks
Rb

I read a tsb that says that if the cooling fan switch is inop or getting there that it will mess with idle and driveability. Ima check mine soon so ill try to describe the relay wiring. Where is the relay btw?
