How do I drop the transmission out of 850

My sons 850 blew a rod and is headed to the wrecking yard so I want to grab the trans as a spare for my 850.

Is there an online tutorial on how to drop one out?

How much work is it to do?

I don't know the individual steps other than to say it is a lot of work, pulling axles, crossmembers etc etc. Would be easier to drop a good used motor in the car and continue onwards.

Here's how to pull it all out the top (probably easiest).

The transmission itself could probably be removed from the bottom - it's usually mating them back up that's the hard part, but you don't want to do that it sounds like.

Dave,

It would come out with a couple hours work if you have the right tools and facility. The sub-frame needs to be dropped way down on the driver's side to allow the transmission to slide out the wheel opening. The engine needs to be supported during the process, ideally from above. Removal is pretty straightforward, and much easier than install. Have an extra set of hands help with actual removal from the car, as that sucker is heavy!

If you are a scavenger, you might also want to save: axles, rad, starter, cam sensor, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, battery, MAF sensor, etc... It's always nice to have a box of spares handy.

Don't bother dropping it at all.

Get a crane and lift the whole powertrain out of the car.
