My wife's C70 convertable has an AC problem. Blows cold on the passenger side, but hot on the driver side. Any body familiar with this?

Do you have individual temperature controls for each side like my 98 S70 T5? If so try spinning the knob/control one way and then back half a dozen times swiftly to see that is the problems.markmack wrote:My wife's C70 convertable has an AC problem. Hi, my 2001 S60 has a similar issue where passenger side blows hot air and driver side is cold air. However I've noticed that it is intermittent, i.e. it starts working after some time and blows cold air, but it's pretty unpredictable. Did you find any solutions?markmack wrote:My wife's C70 convertable has an AC problem. Blows cold on the passenger side, but hot on the driver side. Any body familiar with this?

Try turning the temp control knobs to full hot for 2-3 minutes and then to full cold. The door calibrations might be reset and fix it. Usually low charge gives the reverse of what you are seeing.

We have been having similar symptoms on my wife's 2002 XC70... there was this strange noise in the dash, sounded like a servo or solenoid opening and closing. The driver's side was ice cold, and the passenger side was hot. After a post here, and several friendly responses, I narrowed it down to a low charge. Having purchased one of the simple recharge kits from a local auto part stores a few years back for our Chevy, I was comfortable enough to move the power steering reservoir out of the way, and charge the old girl up. Success! Air conditioning was ice cold for about a month, until last night... today, I noticed a few drips of a yellowish/green oil on the floor of our garage. The fluid was accumulating from the underside of the front bumper area, so I suspect it may be the condenser. I put another can of R134A into the system, and it is once again ice cold. The next step is deciding if I am brave enough to swap out the broken parts on my own. I hate to throw parts at the car, as I am not one hundred percent sure if it is a broken line, or the condenser itself. Worst case scenario, is the compressor has a crack somewhere.
Thanks a lot !! This remedy worked !!jimmy57 wrote:Try turning the temp control knobs to full hot for 2-3 minutes and then to full cold. The door calibrations might be reset and fix it. Usually low charge gives the reverse of what you are seeing.
Just ordered uv glasses and light from amazon for leak check. Volvo uses uv oil in my 2001 and uv light and glasses would show leak. Cost about $27 and arrived in 4-5days. Might have to clean off condenser area first if leak is that big. HVAC condenser cleaner should work.
