V70 Heated leather electric seat replacment with S80 seats

Post by motormat »

My 2001 V70 T5 driver seat had suffered the common failure of the Heated seat element failure.
Not only that but after 150k miles it was not very comfortable.
So I set about finding some replacements. It seems V70 heated electric seats in good condition are rare and expensive..so i started looking for alternatives. Now it seems fairly well proven that S70 and S60 seats are compatible (and pricey)...but what about S80 seats ? I Found 1 post saying that they were compatible and took a gamble.
I Found a pair from a 2000 S80 (heated electric) and for £70 i thought i'd give it a try and low and behold, with some very minor tweaking (i'll go into that) they work perfectly, fit perfectly and have not set of any alarms or sensors etc.
I cannot believe how comfy they are compared to my old seat!

The main difference in the wiring is that the V70 seat has a bunch of connectors in a large holder with a big latch on it. The S80 just has the connectors clipped onto the sub-frame. Everything I checked on the two seats had the same part numbers (i.e. relay modules ECU etc) but just in case i swapped over the control ECU. There was also one cable that had a different connector to go to the car loom...but it just un plugged from the seat end and I put the V70 version in its place. All really really Easy Stuff.

Also i didn't swap over the stalks or Inertia reels or any of that Jaz. The Anchor point of the Seat belt that is anchored to the seat (eh?) is held in place by a large torx screw but WAIT! there is a tiny metal clip just up from that and if you press a small metal tooth the seat belt anchor "ejects" from the seat and then the V70 just clips back in in its place once you have the seat in.
