What is ecm-91 code?

Post by elchopperfreak »

Hi
My wife was driving the V40 and the car simply shit down in the highway, but it started right up.
She took the car to a friend who is a Volvo mechanic and he was kind of alerted ( or what he said is the culprit) by this code

Ecm-91 Torque Reduction- DTC stored in DSA
What is this? and how could it be fixed?

Thanks in advance

I looked this up online last week when you first posted it, but couldn't really arrive at any conclusions. There should be some stored CEL codes to go along w/ the ECM code. Is that the case?

Well
I found a vacuum switch with broken tabs ( right on the brake booster)
Put it back with some zip ties, also took the abs sensors out and cleaned the gunk.
Drove the car a bit and no lights at all until it started raining and the DSA lit up right away, then the abs ( caused by a bump, will be my guess)

Although when you punch the throtle hard, the car seems to loose power intermitently and the DSA light goe on right away..

Can I remove the DSA module and just let it be??

Been doing some research, seems like the car does the cutting off because the coils are grounding somehow, I do not know if that would be the cause for the code but I will certainly check it out as soon as possible.

Question, Would the system go wacko if I remove the DSA from the car?

Found another V40 at the junkyard, might take that DSA module and swap it.

Checked the spark wires today, found some marks but no actual cuts nor pinholes, still wrapped them in electrical tape, the coils did not seem cracked or damaged.
Took the car out and stepped on the gas, it did the "hessitation" again but not as much, will check again when its dark.
The coils and wires seemed fairly new for the car, although, like most, the plastic covers on the wires and plugs is "dissolving"

Now, on to the headlights, the adjusters are all cracked and useless, does anyone has a part number so I can get them replaced, I saw one, but am not sure if they do fit the 2003 headlamp style (may be wrong)

Update.
I was working on the car yesterday, replacing the fuel lid actuator and some odds and ends, found a silver/grey wire that goes across the cargo space (trunk?) on the v40, the wire seemed nicked so I wrapped some electrical tape.
Theres also a wire "jumped" to the drivers side brake light that goes into the roof area( maybe the rear dome light) that one was completely bare.

Dont know if theres any relation but when I got in the car this morning none of the warning lights were on, no ABS, no DSA..????

Anyway, I had just received a Scangauge II so I tested it on the vehicle, it showed no codes whatsoever ( could it be that the scangauge is not good enough or simply the codes are gone?)

The odd part is that after driving all day, stomping on the pedal and such ( testing) the car ran fine, although a few minutes ago it shut down, all the dash lights turned on, no hesitation, just shut. I put it in neutral turned the key and it started right up, no lagging, no hesitation, but the gas gauge showed a 1/4 tank when minutes before it showed 3/4

The gas gauge did not go back and half a mile down the road the car shut down again, same deal ( it was stop and go traffic) after I restarted the car ran fine for a mile or so until I got home, and the gauge went back to 3/4 tank...

The radio never lost power, the scangauge does not shows any codes either, all electrical was working fine...

What could be causing this??

Although Im working on the mechanical part of the car, I also got some goodies.
The grille was all broken up so I got this replacement for less than $60.00 with shipping (I was looking for an used one to modify, but found none local)

Also found a set of wheels for $175.00 and after some black paint...

I think they look much better in black than the actual wheels on the car

Still searching for the mysterious shut off, just while driving, once in a while..
Cleaned the IAC and the MAF, also removed all the foam from inside the air filter canister ( it was crumbling), have new fuel filter, plugs, wires and coils to install, although in the past two days it has developed an oil leak, got to check but I believe the culprit is from the turbo oil retun ( maybe the shot top mount caused it)

Looking for the fabric so I can do the roof liner, and the tint the car.
Motor mounts ordered, new lemforder strut mounts on the way too.
Next is new tires, alignment and some small details...

Now, what can I do about that piece of **** DSA !!!!?????

The oil leak was too much, went at it and found the culprit, cam sensor seal was off, although I got the seals on order, I had to bite the bullet and get robbed by the dealer ( even that the head tech is a friend and I get a discount) $34.00 regular price in the seal (paid $29.00 with tax ouch!!!!!)
Changed the fuel filter as well while the car cooled down..

No leak!!!! But will keep an eye in case the PCV pushed the seal out..
Now I gotta deal with the DSA...
