With 35k miles, I've bought a case of transmission fluid (Mobil OEM Spec) and was planning to change the fluid. In the past with Hondas and Toyotas, I've pulled the drain plug and let 3-4 quarts drain to a pan via gravity. Then I replaced the drain plug and added 3-4 quarts of fresh fluid (same amount as what was drained). Then I start the engine and run through every grear for a total run time of 5-6 seconds. Once run through the grears and turned off, the process of draining/replacing the fluid is repeated. Is seems the fluid drained in the second round is the more of the used fluid than the fresh that was put in following the first drain/refill.
Although this may not be the most complete change, it seems to take care of getting a fresh replacement of 70%+/- of the used fluid and is an easy approach.
Anyone out there think this is not doing a reasonanbly adequate job of a fluid replacement? I really have concerns with my limited skills, large hands and ability to do a full change via the the method some have described by disconnecting the transmission cooler lines without a leak of causing damage. Suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.
