Clutch Replacement

Post by sonia6603 »

I had my clutch replaced in November last, garage had to do it as I had broken down in floods, I have had a noise in my accelerator since then which has steadily got louder. Garage now have my car and want to remove my gearbox to see what is causing the noise - would they have removed the gearbox to refit a new clutch back in November? Thanks if you can help me with this.

The term gear box should be the same thing as transmission. If that is what they mean then it HAD to be removed for the Clutch. I would have them change the Fluid first and see if it improves since it is already there. Had a Clutch put into an older Honda years ago and right afterwards I started getting a noise.

If you shut your engine off while cruising in gear on the freeway and the noise goes away then it is related to ignition/electrical noise. If it remains then gearbox. Do this with caution without traffic and be sure you know how to do this also without having to think much about it.

Get them to check that they re-filled the gearbox oil, Sounds to me like they did not and now the gearbox is failing.
Its a pity you don't still have the car cuz then you could get a friend to check it, if they didn't refill it they should be liable for the new gearbox you will need.

Thanks for coming back to me, Still have no car back the garage is still "working on it" 1 week later, They rang me today to say that the fly wheel was gone and would have to be replaced, as Volvo have modified the fly wheel since November of last year, the clutch that was put in then will now no longer work with the new fly wheel so they will have to replace both now even though my clutch is fine. Surely if the fly wheel was being modified, that would mean there was a problem with them and that is why the have to change them? They want to charge me €1,850 plus VAT to do the job, do I have any argument I can use with them? Sorry have no idea about cars and this is just a bit strange to me. Any help appreciated.
