Small spaces and big hand do not mix

I went to replace the Cabin A/C temp sensor (removed the ECC unit and reached around) but when I went to snap the new sensor in, I felt a dreaded snap and now there is no place to attach the sensor. Double

This was behind the little grill in the switch housing with switches for the STC tracs, sunroof, info & heated mirror defroster switches. Is the "switch housing" (dark gray plastic rectangular piece) that these switches fit into a replaceable part? If so, how does it pop out of the dash? Also, a part number to order a replacement would be great. Thanks

You were supposed to take the radio out and the ECC panel out, then you can more or less easily reach around and push the sensor out the front.
Replacing it is the reverse, you HOLD the housing from the back with your right hand and push the sensor back into place with your left hand

I admit that it did not go well and that the proper technique was not used. I was NOT looking for a scolding about what I did wrong, but rather some assistance in finding the bezel or housing that holds all of these switches, how to remove the same (not the sensor) and if there was a part number for the switch housing so that I could correct my error.

I just replaced the cabin sensor in our 1998 V70r. Forums were very helpful. Here is what I did.

Remove the radio, make sure that you have your code!

Pop out the two switches to the left of the sensor, the moon roof and the info pod.

Remove the grill over the sensor intake, I used a small screw driver to carefully pry it out from the top. Some folks have reported that theirs broke on removal.

My sensor had two tabs that kept it locked into the back of the plastic frame. I could only reach one but that was enough.

Reach your right hand in through the radio opening, and remove the power connector to the sensor.

Grab the back of the sensor with your right and reach your left fingers to the top of the sensor at the 2 O'clock position. Push down on that tab.

I was able to tilt the back of the sensor down and then the bottom tab released.

My sensor had been making a growling noise for about a year before it failed. Cleaning out the dust kept it going a little longer.
