06 xc90 steering wheel gets hard .

My steering wheel gets hard going straight down the road, you try to steer slowly it feel stuck,stif for a second then it turn ,at the same time it make a popping , grasping sound, like if something is lack of grease ,while you are turning it feel ok,it is only when the wheels are going straight. it has 54000 06 XC90, any assistance would be appreciate, thanks for reading.

Is it a 2.5 T or a T6

It is a V8 non turbo.

OK.
The power steering has a speed sensitive feature that varies assist level based on road speed. It sounds like a malfunction with that system.

Interesting information. Give Volvo a call and see what they say. The Dealer might know something about your problem? That is how recalls start or you may get a good will repair.
