Transmission gets Sloppy after Hard Stop

Post by WhatAmIDoing »

Over the past week, I've had 2 instances where I've had to come to a near dead stop from 45mph. Both times brake pedal maxed out (gently, but firmly), ABS activated. After stopping, when I try to downshift into 1st or 2nd, it feels like I'm shifting through thick pudding. The shifter gets very sloppy and notchy. It becomes difficult to get it back in gear for about a minute, then all returns to normal. Double clutching seems to help a little, but not much. When making hard stops, I always step on the clutch just as I'm maxing out the brake pedal. Any ideas what could be causing this and how to prevent it? It's inhibiting me from getting back up to speed quickly.

Check brake fluid level to be sure the fluid is not dropping below the clutch fill port when the fluid runs to front of res.

Last I checked a couple weeks ago, the brake fluid was at the max line. Recently did a brake flush, and made sure to fill past the clutch fill port. And if it was the clutch, wouldn't the clutch feel mushy and I'd be grinding gears? Clutch stays nice and firm.

Check your engine mounts to see if your engine and trans are shifting on the hard stop.

Yikes
