In my new to me 740 wagon (Owned 2.5 months, driven 14K miles) there are speaker grills in the front door panels, but no speakers. There are however, speaker wires behind the grills, behind the door panel. When I hook a speaker up to these wires, I get no sound. I presently have the original AM/FM/Cassette in the dash, 1.5 DIN, but that will soon change. I would like to add speakers in the front doors. Has anyone done this to a 740 with the original low-budget radio option? What problems will I encounter?

None if you take the time to study the wiring diagrams and aren't afraid to use a soldering iron. The front door speakers from a 960 will fit. I seem to remember the front speakers size being 6.5 inch and the rears being 5.25 inch. But Volvo used the offset mounting holes to make the speaker grills fit.
