V70 R Question
2007 was the last year right? Are they good if well maintained? I want another R and am doing a search for the youngest, lowest mileage example I can find. Are they still nice little rocket ships? I had a 98, lots of problems but what a blast to drive.

Yes, 2004-2007 V70 R.
The bad:
The bad:
- not quite as big on the inside as you'd think, specifically, front passenger knee room
- 4C struts are expensive
- I find P2 radios to be counter-intuitive and fiddly
- first service is going to be around $1500 - V70 R engine oil, transmission, coolant, brake, steering, diffs, Haldex service.
- fast, fast, fast
- far better ride than the P80 Volvos
- adjustable suspension (4C)
- much improved AWD durability
- super instrument cluster
- they look fantastic
- 6-speed manual

I bought a 2007 V70R 6-spd. Love it. Had one shock replaced under warranty so far. No $1500 service so far, just routine maintenance all under warranty as it came CPO. Another quirk, due to the big brake calipers, turning circle stinks - akin to aircraft carrier as some have said. I say similar to a big SUV.matthew1 wrote:Yes, 2004-2007 V70 R.
The bad:The good:
- not quite as big on the inside as you'd think, specifically, front passenger knee room No worse than any other P2 wagon
- 4C struts are expensive Agree
- I find P2 radios to be counter-intuitive and fiddly It's fine
- first service is going to be around $1500 - V70 R engine oil, transmission, coolant, brake, steering, diffs, Haldex service.
Agree with all of these!

The hardest thing is finding them. The later models especially. Seems like there are more '04s and '06's around than '06s and '07s. If you find one go drive it. Fun car.
rmmagow: not sure where you are, but there are actually five V70 Rs ranging from '04 to '07 listed on Cars.com right now within 150 miles of Annapolis, MD. I'm actually in the market for a good 03 - 07 XC70, but I keep a V70 search going as sometimes the XCs get mis-labled when posted.
Having driven sticks most of my life, the manual R does seem tempting. You'll see a few V70 strippers with a 5 speeds and there's actually an '01 V70 T5 with manual on my current search. Anyone have any experience with P2s wagons equiped with a manual tranny?

'06 XC90 2.5 158k miles
'01 V70 T5 (gone at 268k miles)
'01 XC70 (gone at 90k miles)
'93 850 GLT (gone at 194k miles)
And many a 240, 140 and even a 122 before those
