Air Conditioner lights blinking
Air Conditioner lights blinking
Occasionally, the ac off light and the recirculate light will alternate blinking. Also, the ac cuts off sometimes until i turn it off, and rest it for a few minutes. Then i can return it to normal use. Is the blinking a code? Cabin temp sensors? Thanks for any insight.

The blinking lights indicate an error but the flashing is not a code. In order to find out exactly what it is mad about you need to find a shop or dealer with a Volvo Scan Tool or its variants. The cabin temp sensor is a good candidate as the source of the error and it is easy to clean. I think the sensor is in the slotted portion of the right hand switch bank on your '98 but my '98 isn't here at the moment to check.
As far as the A/C cutting off, search the site for "Clutch Gap" and it will bring up several threads on shimming the A/C clutch. Your symptoms indicate a clutch gap that is too big.

I fixed the clutch gap with the bread bag tab shortcut, and cleaned some ugly dust from the cabin sensor. However, still blinking and no a/c at all, not even on & off. Freon pressure disengaged is 100. I will go to dealer for proprietary software check only if necessary! But any insight is greatly appreciated. Also, I see anram 123 has posted the exact same symptoms. He also has a v70.

You never know what the AC system might be complaining about, but there is a way to find out.
I'd refer you to these posts:
1) How to build a code reader (if needed for the '96 and '97 850 -- might also work on the V70)

2) How to fix one of the common causes of the blinking lights (the Damper motor feedback sensor)

Good luck!
