OK, rocket scientists!
I saw this listed once and forgot what it was. The fix is on this site, if I can just remember what the gummed up part is called...
My '02 S80 2.9 (no turbo, 210K miles) howls intermittently, sounding like the AC compressor or power steering pump is about to get expensive.
But...if I open the oil fill cap (which is not easy, since it's under a lot of suction) the howling stops.
This is something along the lines of a gummed up crankcase vent.
As said up at the top, there's a documented fix on this site, since the 2.4, 2.5 and 2.9 engines all see this failure.
Thanks for reading, and any help!

The crankcase vapor regulator which is built onto the oil/vapor box on side of block has a ruptured diaphragm. You need to get it fixed as will pull dirt int through the crank and cam seals. The kazoo noise you are hearing is that air being drawn in.

So...that's part of the "PCV Breather System" (this is what IPD calls their kit)?
IPD's description makes it look like a not-too-tough project.
Please Advise,

The 114532 kit pic shows the box with the round item on top. That is the crankcase pressure regulator.
You removed the upper intake and then the lower intake and the box is on front of the block and very accessible. The intake removal is easy on non-turbos.
