2005 S80 T6 Vibration

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2005 S80 T6 Vibration

Post by shailey »

I'm experiencing vibration, most noticeably between 65 mph and 80 mph, when accelerating or decelerating. It almost fades away when driving at a constant speed on a level road. I'ts very bothersome when climbing or descending hills, (with the engine under load - up hill, or under engine braking - down hill). I can create the vibration by accelerating and decelerating on a level road. In neutral, the vibration decreases quite a bit.

My guess is that this is related to a drive axle or the torque converter. Can anyone comment on the cause of this issue?

Start with a wheel balance, though this is less likely according to the description, you'll be kicking yourself if you spend $500 plus on axles and find out later it could have been avoided.

Old thread but relevant to my car. I had exactly these symptoms and replaced many suspension components and engine mounts. But tonight I believe I located the root cause, a slightly bent passenger-side axle. Replaced it with a new Volvo part and it's as smooth as silk again. I've read before on other threads that axles are often to blame for front vibrations under load, so I can recommend checking out the axles (driveshafts). Not cheap, I paid almost $600 for the original Volvo part, but the virbration was driving me (pun intended) crazy for the past two years and getting rid of it is worth it to me.
