964 1991-94 Rear suspension mountings Beware

Post by gmtgmt »

Thought i might share this.

I have had some problems with my beloved 964, it made a hard clunk sound when i put it into gear or started out from a dead stop. i thought this was the bushings, as they where on my old 764 TIC.

So i was replacing the driver side rear spindle as one bush was bad there, and i hoped it would stop making the clunk sound.
(I had complete rear supsension from a good parts car)

As i was putting the brake rotor on i notied there where some seriours rust where the front mounting bolts for the rear subframe was.
the more i poked at it the worse it was the whole front end of the subframe mounts to the body was rusted away. but i noticed that it was bolt on brackets where the spring sits. look them up at work today and they are avieble still from volvo but only as "GCP" and they where cheap.

So guys in the rust belt be aware of these brackets
