2010 XC60 brake fluid: Dot 4 ok, or Dot 4+?
2010 XC60 brake fluid: Dot 4 ok, or Dot 4+?
I need to do the brakes on my wifes 2010 XC60 T6. Is there really something about 4+ or can I use Dot 4 to top up the fluid? I have searched and don't find anything very definate. I have seen Dot 5.1 is OK but would like to hear form other Volvo folk. Thanks
Thanks,
Mike

If it was my 850, I'd mix them and not give it a second thought. From what I read, Dot 4+ is a higher temperature Dot 4, and compatible.
Dot 4+ Brake Fluid Explained
But a car under warranty... it gives me pause. The XC60 owners manual clearly states Dot 4+ on page 233.

DSTC requires the Dot 4+ from Volvo. It has a thinner viscosity needed for high speed reaction of the DSTC.
None of the other Dot 4+ currently meet the Volvo spec. Castrol makes it for Volvo but the fluid is sold on the European market.
ATE makes SL.6 which is close. I do prefer the Volvo stuff. It is much cheaper in Liter form vs the little containers. A skilled tech can bleed the car with 1 liter.
