PCV System from IPD or FCP?

Post by VolvoMonkey »

I have a hard time telling the difference between two similar offerings from FCP and IPD:

http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-p ... bo-v70t100

http://www.ipdusa.com/products/4988/114 ... xc70-turbo

Any thoughts on why the one from IPD is $140 more expensive?

Thanks.

The one from IPD includes the long line that snakes around the engine from the turbo to the oil trap.

I got the cheaper one from FCP. I meant to remove the non-included line and clean it out, but I got so frustrated with the job, and had a limited time table, that I just hooked it back up and hoped for the best.

I had a terrible time removing the manifold on my car - yours is probably different than my 2000 s70 glt se, but if not, then FYI that weird thing on the fuel line that snakes above your intake mani is a quick-disconnect that you can disconnect with a screwdriver, or a special tool. I think I added pics to the PCV thread.

My preference between the two is IPD's kit. They send real hose clamps rather than oetiker clamps and they also include a new set of injector O rings. I have an oetiker crimp tool but there simply isn't room to make it work.

Unfortunately, the IPD kit has some of the same crappy URO hoses that the IPD kit has. The hose from the oil trap to the block is a very important hose and I have seen pictures of the URO branded hoses where they have just swelled up and started to disintegrate. For that hose I buy Blue Box and just throw the URO hose away.

Could you link me to the "blue box" hose you got? I've heard mixed things about IPD's kit and if that is an issue I'd like to get a different hose. I went with the $100 option from IPD

Last time, I bought the kit that was all Volvo bits for peace of mind. Inside that long hose assembly is a small plastic hose that gets brittle and can snap if you’re manhandling it between obstructions.

I had a kit from IPD with that short URO hose that lasted all of about 500km before splitting. Love do-over jobs!

They did change it for a while to a Volvo hose, have they changed back?

I prefer Oetiker clamps to the screw type, but then I have multiple Oetiker clamp tools that can work from the end or the side.

FCP also has the lifetime warranty!

I'm cracking up at the distinction between Oetiker and "real" hose clamps...

You can use big dikes to crimp an oetiker in tight places. Sounds too personal. Make sure any hose that sees oil is blue box , indeed.
