Brakes

Post by Tim »

I have a 1991 940GL and am trying to replace the rear brakes. Do you know if I have to split the caliper in half to remove the pads? Waht is the best way to get a rotor off on the rear? Or where can I get this info? Thanks

DON'T SPLIT THE CALIPERS!!!! The pads come out by just removing the two long pins that go through the pads, The pins tap out with a small punch from the inside, the caliper remains in place if all you are doing is replacing the pads. To remove the caliper there are two bolts on the inboard side that fastens the caliper to the rear axle bracket, just remove these two bolts. Be careful not to bend or stretch the brake lines.

If you are unsure I would recommend you take your car to a professional, you don't want to play with items like brakes or suspension when your life and mine depends on only the highest quality work and 100% confidence the job is done correctly.
