Volvo 850 M56 Manual Transaxle

Post by Skankmeister »

A return trip from the grocery store in my 1994 850 non-turbo manual left me with no 1st and second gear. After I removed the transaxle and shuckked it open I found the cause to be a broken syncro hub. I took the offending layshaft to my dealer and he advised me that I could not buy the replacement part I needed but he was more than willing to sell me a recoditioned transaxle for CAN$ 3,000.00! After some digging I managed to locate a used one locally for a third of the price. My question to you is where can I find the replacement hub for this otherwise good transaxle? I have a corespondance with GETRAG but have been shuntted to thier Swedish office. Any thoughts?

The removal is straight forward:Support the engine from above after the car is elevated and drop the engine support frame. Then drop the transaxle.
