ACETONE in gas tank-good mileage-?

Post by adrian22 »

I added about 2-3 oz acetone in every gas tank in the last 2 monts with amazing results,-better milage -went up from 18 to 20 /city and from 27 to 29/30 highway. Also to sount of the engine is better quaiet/smooth.
Question is do i do any harm to the car since to amount of acetone is so low?If not this can be the practice for all cars and the reason the big gas co. do not add acetone is in fact they are afraid of lowering gas consumtion by 10%( and profits too...)

i'm no expert, but i read in this forum that acetone(even at low concentration) could eventually damage rubber, maybe metal parts, since you'd want to use acetone everytime.
someone wrote that he would mix acetone with gas before putting it in the tank to ensure accurate even concentration. seems like a dirty work to save a gallon or two.
i may use it in lower concentration to see if it's worth it. i don't think it's safe to carry around acetone in a car though. it may not be legal even.
if acetone is safe to use in a long run, there shoulda been some products intended for gas mix-in. but so far only way to get acetone is at a hardware store as paint thinner(??). i hope it's safe, but deep down, i think it's too good to be true. although, if i had to pay $4+ for a gallon, i would use it temporarily.
