Not ebrake, caliper ... broken spring ????

Post by jb1882 »

I wrote the below quote earlier.
Since then noticed the passenger front was laying lower. We popped the hood and could see things were not right. We turned the wheel all the way to the left and can feel the spring is pressed firmly into the tire.

We talked to the mechanic and he said this type of thing just happens. I asked if something could have happened during the tow to get it to the garage for alt repair. He said no.
Is this correct?
Could something happen during the tow that might cause the spring to break or slip?

Also he said I should replace both springs. Is this he case as well?
Hi All. I just got my 01 XC wagon out of the shop Wed night having the alternator replaced. It was fine driving it home.
Tried to drive it last night and there is an awful crunching sound. It seems like it is coming from the the right front. At first was thinking parking brake froze up but I am wondering if the caliper is stuck.
There was a snow storm all day yesterday. Could the snow or cold have anything to do with it?
If it is the caliper is there anyway to un-seize it?
Please tell me there is something I can do.

Thanks

J

Hello there J
Be very carefull with the handbrake. My friend has just had me repair the r/h side.
We spent a couple of hours in the breakers sourceing a replacement hud, all because he was to tight to service/ replace the hand brake shoes. It seem that when things get a bit loose and wobbly, they can jam against the side rip them selves to destruction, includeing the main hub.
So new shoes and sprins will save a lot of grief, and an almighty exspence.
Good luck, and happy new year. Paul
