'91 240 instrument cluster removal

Post by kiva667 »

Trying to change the dial illumination lights... I removed the small panels on either side of the cluster and the four screws holding it. The right hand side of the cluster will not loosen - it feels jammed in there somehow. Anyone have an idea what this could mean? The cluster is stuck in place.

It could be that someone has pushed too hard on that side when replacing the cluster. If you can get your hand up behind the cluster you could try pushing it out on the right hand side. Failing that try to insert a very thin but strong metal strip between the cluster and the dashboard, again working on the right hand side, and see if you can ease the cluster out. A 12 inch steel rule is ideal for this job.
