Installing safety grille - help

I am trying to install the safety grille in my V40. The problem I am having is getting the mounting bracket installed underneath the headliner. The hole that I cut in the headline is way too small for me to hold the mounting bracket, hold the screw and use my ratchet wrench to tighten the screws. Is there a way I can partially (and safetly) remove the headliner in this area so I can get my hands in there and install this thing? I'm sure that if I took this to the dealer they would be able to do it.... ($140.00 is what I was quoted). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
