Fuel door hinge replacement?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Fuel door hinge replacement?

Post by bajaman »

I had someone attempt to steal fuel from me recently....in broad daylight no less!.....while shopping at a large mall. The fuel door was literally ripped off and tossed (which I found after a short search) but it is completely broken off the hinge, a little black plastic piece. Now, I have tried to see how the heck this thing is attached, thinking I could get the piece and replace it myself. I have gone in thru the trunk....can't access it, there is a double-walled fender there. I have taken the rubber insert out around the fuel filler cap area....can't access it, the gap between the double-walled fender is only about a 1/16" wide. This is driving me crazy! I guess I will have to have a body shop check it out......grrrrrrrr! :x

hinge bracket is held in place by four small plastic dowels.

find a nail or something slightly smaller diameter as the pins and drift them out with a hammer.

open the holes out a little on the replacment bracket and the pins hammer / push in much easier.
