Anyone tried this cheap Aux input for XC90?

The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

Anyone tried this cheap Aux input for XC90?

Post by songzunhuang »

I have been scouring for a inexpensive (relatively) way to add an iPhone / iPod input into our 2004 XC90 with the premium sound system. So far all the boxes that I have found are well over $300.

Then I came across this on eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-SD-SDHC-MP3 ... vi-content

Has anyone tried this $70 unit? It sounds like it may be a knock off of the Grom box or something. Anyhow, I was hoping to hear from someone to see if I should give it go.

There's something similar selling for $110 via a direct buy website I saw the other day. Only disadvantage when compared to the GROM is that it doesn't mate with the bluetooth on your phone to give a truly integrated unit. Good value on the surface though.

Finally found the unit in my history: http://enfigcarstereo.com/USASPEC_PA11_VOL.html

Don't know if this is compatible with the XC90 radios. They may have another product which is better suited like this but not cheap:

Thanks for the input. Well, I just got a portable bluetooth speaker (very highly rated TDK unit) for now. I was thinking about this for an upcoming family trip. I'll consider these other options later. I really don't want to spend $350-500 just for an aux input/bluetooth. I'll keep a lookout for a lower cost option though.

That doesn't work with the XC90. Sometimes I wish the XC90 had a normal stereo instead of the premium thing with fiber optics. It's such a pain to do anything with it. Not to mention the fact that my amp was flaky last year and I had no choice but to spend $800 on a factory replacement! Nothing else was compatible. :(

In my experience the XC90 system does not have the 8 Pin DIN shown in the ebay product. I tore my system apart and integrated a Denison product that is very nice. It was not inexpensive though. The plus side is that it offers iPod/iPhone, RCA aux and USB inputs. It installed easily and takes over the CD changer with full control through the stereo or steering wheel including text readout.

I think whatever you buy has to be a fiber optic loop through.

Does anyone know whether the stock head unit (even with the "High Performance" system) has the CDC connector - which is what I assume the 8 Pin DIN connector, is? I would have imagined the basic head unit would be the same across all models, and that the 6-cd CDC would simply plug into this connector.

Does anyone have photo's of the back of their unit?
