bonnet wobble

Post by dgg9879 »

When I drive the front bonnet wobbles up and down. I checked when the car is parked and the bonnet is able to move up and down quite a lot even though it is closed and locked.

I am a new Volvo 850 driver/owner.

Is this experience normal?

I find it quite disconcerting the way the bonnet wobbles.

You may need to adjust the hood latches to get it tight. Does it line up with the fenders correctly?

The problem seems to be the bonnet springs back up and does not go all the way down. I can only see one latch in the middle of the bonnet that drops down into a black hole.

Having looked at it and thought about it, it can't be right. I hope there is no risk driving this way.

I bought it from a used car yard with a 3 year warranty but warranty may not cover this problem.

I can't see how to adjust it.

Will phone dealer tomorrow about it.

The center latch shouldn't need to be adjusted but there are latches on each front corner that can be adjusted (these are actuated by the hood release). However it sounds like your springs and hinges may be the problem instead.

Thanks for the advice.

I just went to the garage then to check (while you were writing your reply). I found the latches on the sides. I found by pressing the bonnet on left side and right side as well as the middle that it shuts securely now. I just need to be careful to always remember to do this. This was not a problem on my other car - 1987 Pulsar.
