Hi
I just test drove a 1995 T5-R and maybe you can help me with a few qestions. (first time driving a turbo). The car looked ok for the age and the engine well maintained. It has the 4gear auto trans.
I noticed that the right hand side was very oily, on the driveshaft/axle and on the suspension below, generally in the vincinity, also the bottom of the engine. Left side was bone dry. Also I couldn't see anything from above. Is this likely engine oil? (what I could see looked yellow-brownisch)
The car pulled good in low rpm's (turbo seems to spool up nicely), but in the higher rpms, like 4.5-5k I think there was power missing, at least i felt that way, I would have expected the power to steadily increase, but after 4.5 or so it was a bit boring. Is that normal? What could be the reason - like I said the engine looked well looked after but is high milage, Turbo was replaced a short time ago...
Should I let it be? Other than these things it drove nicely and I quite liked it.

Could be fuel cut off or worn ignition parts. I wouldn't let that bother me or stop me from buying.

Ok, thx. I also think it's probably not a big issue because it ran fine and pulled very good from below. Fuel consumption average looked ok, maybe a bit low (10.5L/100km)
I test drove a v70R AWD some time ago (engine was in bad shape) and It didn't go nearly as good as that, probably had a bad turbo.
I'm a bit worried about the oil though. The owner has to put it through the yearly inspection anyways (it's mandatory (like mot?) here) and promised me to send me the results... so I'll see. He hadn't noticed it and thought it could be the Oil-Pan seal... don't know if that is likely.

Hello again, about 1 month later and I'm now the owner of the black T5-R. Didn't find any alternatives, so I took it.
The interior has seen better days but could be worse. Someone smoked in it
. Trasmission sometimes shifts hard, but seems generally ok. Has some dents, but nothing major. It's still nice to drive. Must have been an extremly fine car when new.
I will have to do some suspension work I think. Sometimes the rear klonks when going over some bumps - this is probably bad - any Idea what it is?
Also the front is not very precise when steering, probably something to do fix there as well (shouldn't be a problem, have done some Front sus. things on my s70).
The previous owner fixed the turbo, head gasket, pcv, oil pan and cam seals... there is still a bit of oil near the plug, but it doesnt seem like a big problem.
Turbo and Engine seem ok, I can hear a soft woosh and power is there, but It loses power in the higher rpm. When it upshifts there is a small power boost - I think there is somehing not 100%right.
At the moment I can't do much because I'm sick, but I intend to fix most of the problems myself, might have some questions on it later.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll get a boost gauge first thing and will see where I go from there.

So...
I had the Oil loss problem fixed, it was just a bad Oil line from the turbo
btw, here is a picture of the car
Fixed the power seats
And some other small things.
Today I replaced everything from the ignition coil onwards (plugs, distributor, wires) which was sureley needed, somebody had stripped the screws on the distributor and it probably was long overdue.
I have a question about the iginition coil. It looks almost exactly like this one: click
It doesn't seem to fit correctly and is rubbing with the airbox, and I did some googling and in all the pictures I found the coil looks like it does on my s70 (smaller and different), like this
Did someone install a wrong coil ? it is a T5-R 1995

Thanks. I will replace it; do you think this might be the reason for the above mentioned power loss?
It also cranks a lot longer then my s70.

Could be.Install the proper coil and you'll see.hausmeister wrote:Thanks. I will replace it; do you think this might be the reason for the above mentioned power loss?

If it continues with long cranking i would replace the fuel filter. If the fuel filter doesn't help...it would be a bad check valve in the fuel pump.But...let's go with one thing at a time.
You can show us your T5-R here:
