Innova 3130 won't read live data or codes on my '96

Innova 3130 won't read live data or codes on my '96

My '96 850has a check engine light on. I have an Innova 3130 scan tool and it comes back with 'no dtc stored on the vehicle's computer' it also fails to read live data on this car. It worked perfectly on my 98 V70T5 I used to own. Anybody had a similar experience?

Does anyone know what scan tools work on the 1993 850 and where does one make the connection between the car and the scan tool?

A 93 should have the diagnostic boxes under the hood

I had a 3130 and it worked alright on my 96, but it sometimes took multiple attempts to get it to connect.

Mine connects just fine, I get a solid green LED on the emissions status, but despite the fact I have a CEL it tells me there are no codes. The thing that makes less sense is that no live data is displayed, just a blank screen. The code reader works fine on my other car (a 2000 Peugeot)

I've seen wiring or fuse problems on the way to the car's DLC cause my scanner (a 3140) to fail to read codes.

That's just a thought.

I hope you figure it out. Let us know.

The CEL has healed itself. I still have no idea what it was. Still no live data either. If it was a fuse, the scanner wouldn't get any power fom the vehicle connector would it? Mine is connecting. I wonder if it is a wiring problem on one of the pins. A can of worms I don't want to get into...I hate wiring!

I had a cam sensor issue the other day which I replaced. When I started the car it had a misfire due to a wet plug. I thought this would at least trip a CEL with a misfire code, but no. How long does it need to run on 4 cylinders to throw a code?
Every time I plug my scanner in, even with a CEL lit, it says "no DTCs stored on the vehicle computer" and I always get the steady green I/M readiness light.
I still can't get any live data either.

This sounds like a problem with the OBD system, maybe not the reader at all. Misfire codes show up right away when running on 4 cylinders, I know that firsthand.
