Resetting service light

Post by DavidsVolvo »

I have a 1998 V70 FWD and a 1999 V70 XC. Both cars have the service light on for the first 2 minutes. I have a OBD-II high end diagnostic instrument by AUTEL. I can even select the exact Volvo year, type engine etc. But no where does it allow me to rest the service light. How do I do this?

It's also not too hard to take out the dash panel and just remove the bulb. IPD has a video on it for replacing the bulbs.

The simplest solution:

Cut a piece of black electrical tape about 3/4" by 3/4" and place it over the light.
I did that many many years ago and never look back.

Yeah, the '98 needs a tool, but it's an exception.
You should be able to reset the '99 pretty easily.
Key turns and button pushes, isn't it?

On the 1999

Ignition off.
Press in trip odometer reset button.
Switch on ignition.
Continue pressing in the reset button for 10 seconds. (Sing one third of the "Final Jeopardy" theme
Release reset button within 4 seconds.
Cut a piece of black electrical tape about 3/4" by 3/4" and place it over the light
Horrible advice, Shirley....

It's 19mm x19mm, and the electrical tape colour must match the body exterior, of course.
