V40 drove into pothole containing large rock:
- two large bang sounds, stopped car and found oil dripping underneath,
turned off engine.
- $1330 to replace oil pan, cross bar and engine support bar at dealership
I cannot find any sign of a skid plate for 2001 V40 on the Web. In fact,
someone says they aren't made any more.
Does anyone know where to find a skid plate?
is there a skid plate for 2001 V40? Topic is solved

Since it is unlikely anyone will know of an available skid plate product for the 2001 V40, perhaps we can discuss why not? Is it hard to find a place to
attach it? Is it hard to protect all the vulnerable components? Is there too little space?
In order to fabricate a custom skid plate, what do we need to understand?
- secure mounting points under the hood? (or do we want tearaway mounts
to avoid compromising chassis?)
- ground clearance?
- what needs to be protected (oil pan, engine support, "crossbar"(?))
- access holes for service? (oil change?)

I don't know the answers to your questions, but if I were to go about finding out I'd start by studying IPD's 70 series skid plate http://ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.aspx?Cate ... RootID=629 and perhaps the OEM skidplate on XC70s.
