V70 Door Switch Diagnosis
V70 Door Switch Diagnosis
Hi all, i have a 99 V70 with the courtesy lights not turning off. the puddle lamps and under dash laps are turning off but the roof lights and the light on the ignition barrel stay on. if the roof lights are set to off they will go off but the ignition barrel light will stay on, if the roof light is unplugged the ignition barrel will switch off when the car is locked, as it should. i suspect one of the door locks to be the issue i.e it thinks a door is open, but after more than a day of trying cannot figure out which one. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Don't forget to check the trunk/boot too.

This is exactly my problem, same make and model too, coincidentally. Where are the door and trunk switches? I couldn't find them on a first look.

The switches are built into the lock assemblies. I have been able to shim the striker plate that mates with the micro-switch with a thin piece of cardboard, about like a cereal box, to make the switch work again.
The other option that will work every time is to replace the lock assembly but it is painful on the wallet.

Thanks Lee,
That is good to know, i'll try the shim trick when I next spend some time on the old wagon.

How to identify Faulty Door Lock Micro-switches (I got this from another posting, it works)
When locking the car with the fob the alarm wouldn't set. With help from the forum I found out that the micro switches in the door locks can go faulty.
Here's how to identify which ones(s) without a trip to the stealers.
First pull fuse 15 which should be a ten amp.
Then switch the courtesy lights off using the switch in the roof console (Depressed right)
Then turn the ignition on.
The door/tailgate open light on the lower left on the console should be off. If it is dimly lit you have a problem.
Go around one door at a time and open it. When open the light should change to brightly lit. Do this individually for the doors, the bonnet, the tailgate and this glove box.
If the status of the light does NOT change when you open something then you have a problem there.
Changed the mechanism with one from a scrappie £20
