Morning All,

I just wanted to give an opinion on Meguiar's Ultimate Compund.

This stuff is absolutely AMAZING!

When we purchased our 00' V70 X/C SE a couple of months back, the body was in what I would say "good" condition. There was no rust to be had anywhere on the vehicle and just a small "dime size" ding or two here and there. However... there were numerous surface scratches in a few of the panels almost like "a dog jumped up on the car with it's paws and kept scratching repeatedly."

I read a bunch of reviews on this and everyone said how well it worked. My main reason for purchasing this was to remove some bird etchings that remained in the paint after removing the bird droppings.

Well, not only did remove the "etchings", it removed 80% of the surface scratches while at least lightening the rest and without affecting the paint quality too!. This first application was done by hand. I figure with a second application using an orbital buffer and the rest of them will come out as well.

I would recommend this product to anybody. 8)

Thanks for this, JPR. I've used Meguire's Clay bar kit and Scratch-X to good effect.

MileHiXC70 wrote some informative posts on removing deep paint scratches with Mequire's products:
You will probably need to do several steps if the scratches are more then 1500 grit deep. When I got my car it had never been detailed. I had to start with meguiars medium cut, then megs fine cut, then 3m polish, then megs NXT sealer, then S100 carnauba wax. It was a lot of work but well worth the time. This was done with a Porter cable orbital buffer.

That stuff works a million times better with a Porter-Cable or Flex. It's the only Meguiars product that I like

I used it on my white 96 850 when I first bought it. The paint was faded and dingy at best, but looked brand new when I was done. I use Menzerna on my other cars with clearcoat.

I busted it out the other day and did an enclosed trailer that I just bought that had oxidized black paint. Two of us had it done in 30 minutes, it did a good job.

One thing...don't ever let that stuff dry on your car. You'll be hating life.

I used MUC on the sled a few years back. She'd never been compounded before. Regularly hand washed, then clayed, then a coat of NuFinish. Which worked well for protection but not much for shine or gloss. Then again, a white wagon has no depth really. There were numerous swirls/fine scratches in the clear coat.

Turns out a neighbor had a FLEX and kindly let me borrow it. I bought fresh pads, UC and went to work. Took most of a day if I recall. Due to the recommendations for Dura-Gloss, I went with it. Finally found it locally after quite a search. Easy on & off + doesn't stain black trim like NF does. It also really shines up a white "floor freezer on wheels". I was rather amazed.

I don't think I would have gotten NEAR the results though without the FLEX or equiv. There's a LOT to be said for using such a machine.

I also use DG AquaWax on the hood & roof after every wash. Rather than spray it on a wet car though, I blast off most of the water using a leaf blower, then lightly spray the surface, then spread it evenly with a bare hand. THEN I wipe it dry. Works better for me this way. Also use less product. Rain beads up like BB's with this stuff.

I haven't compounded the CC since, nor clayed, not applied any more of the DG sealant. The sled's been out of the garage for two months and was getting pretty dirty. Then a flock of birds showed up and took turns bombing away. I went out with a hose end sprayer + car wash, thinking I was going to have to really scrub. Very pleased & surprised 95% of the poop came off without any sponge/scrub/etc. Just car wash + water from the hose end sprayer.
