Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
I have a 1995 850 with its stock radio which has no CD player. When I take the radio out, I dont even see the CD cable (could be hidden I guess). But there is a port for it on the stock radio. Question is: If I buy an aftermarket HU with a CD player, do I have to do anything special to get the CD player working? I dont even see the same port that the stock one has on any of the aftermarket ones. Also, I'm looking for a double-din and some places like Crutchfield only list single-dins for the 850. Places like amazon say the double din I want is compatible. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-BHddQzYs0e ... etails-tab
this is the one I'm dreaming of . Anyone have any experience with it or have any suggestions of something comparable in price and quality?
The Hu with the cd palyer (816 i think) will just plug and play after you type in the 4 digit code that turns the radio on. ( make sure you get it with the radio). The cd cable is an extra you can add on to also have a 6 or 10 disc changer.
You can wire in an aftermarket but you need an adapter harness to make it plug n play. I really like the 816. We drove across country a couple of times in an 850 wagon with one and it was great fun. Aftermarkets will be louder and probably a little clearer but there is nothing wrong with an HU 816
That is a possibility I suppose. Kind of looking for something a little more updated with aux and USB though. Regardless, I appreciate the response. I have looked up the wiring harness, doesn't look like too much work to install and splice. Thank you for clarifying the CD changer question too.
I just ordered The axxera xdma 7200. It has BT, slot for SDHC 16gig card, usb slot that charges plays ipods, and ALSO can read a usb drive with ANOTHER 16 gigs! AN android phone can also stream music via BT. finally it also has a cd-rom drive that can read mp3s. but knew who needs mp3's with all that disk space. price was $80 on Amazon however on Crutchfield is $120 but it includes all the cable adapters required for assembly I ordered from Crutchfield
That one sounds cool. I went with a Kenwood single din. Has mp3 hook up and CD. When it came down to it, I realized I wanted a space for a uhf/vhf radio or scanner below the stereo so single din works out. Plus i figure double dins get stolen often. Crutchfield is a really good deal. Radio, mounting kit, and harness for $99. Have fun with yours.
