Oil Separator question

Does anyone know why there is two connectors on the oil trap container but only one is used to route a hose to the main air inlet. I have B6304F engine and a 1991 Volvo 960

One hose goes to the air intake before the throttle body, the other is a vent for the engine sump, I assume for any blow by.
