1996 960 - $650 to repair PS hose

Post by sanfelice »

ugh. any idea how difficult a job this is?

at least it's not the rack. not yet, that is.

I love the car and JUST put it back on the road after about a 1.5yr layup.

That's a ridiculous quote from the face of it.

The hose itself is around $180 NEW.

Are you happy to DIY this repair? If so you could purchase some pipe spanners and still have change left over.

Are you happy to perform the work yourself?

If its just the line ( rubber part) that is leaking then remove it and take it to a hydraulics shop. High pressure hose and a few crimps will save you a ton.

High pressure hose (9191450) costs $162 at Volvo Wholesale Parts

Low pressure hose (980477) costs $11 at Volvo Wholesale Parts

2 X new crush washers (provide dealer with VIN for correct items) are about $4

Labour for BOTH hoses R & I is 40 minutes

shop was saying that the line attaching to this one (essentially the rigid aluminum line, maybe a cooling line?) may be bad and likely have to be replaced also.

The hose for $162 above includes everything from the PS pump to the rack including the rigid section
There is no cooling of the PS system.

i think this may be what he was referring to.

I have tackled things probably as difficult (or more so, if the book has it at 40m...).

Apologies yes I can see that it's called a cooling coil. 9169584 costs $77 new from site sponsor.

Cooling coil isn't mentioned in repair times PDF. Perhaps get a quote to fit it.
