I was under my car and seen the old swollen coolant hoses back near the turbo. So I'm going to replace all of the hoses that carry coolant. Exactly how many are there?
1 = Upper Rad Hose.
1 = Lower Rad Hose.
2 = Hoses to heater core.
1 = Short hose from back of motor to turbo line rail (near motor serial number).
1 = Hose to top of thermostat.
1 = Hose off bottom of coolant reservoir.
2 = Hoses at back of motor between motor and turbo.
9 Total
Have I missed any?

I have my head off for a new gasket on my 96 850T. Do you want some photos of that area of the turbo without the exhaust mani in the way?
Incidentally I did this same job 3 years ago and the hardest part (with mani on then) was accessing the hose clamp screw on the hose entering the turbo. I think I did it from underneath, and it was an hour job. Once it was loose enough I could turn the clamp to get a better angle on the screw (I think from above then) and I reinstalled it at that angle.
Sorry I don't have more info, but I feel for you! Let me know if pix might help.

I have a 99 with two more hoses or the oil cooler, but I know the 850 oil cooler is different.
If you want to replace ALL the hoses the small radiator-reservoir hose counts too....

I'm only referring to the hoses that deliver coolant. I'm trying to eat this elephant one bite at a time. LOL

I just did this same job a few months ago when one of the heater core hoses ruptured on me. I think you should go ahead and get the firewall union and plan on replacing that as well as my heater core hoses would not separate without that union breaking. It was a pain to replace, and it is replaced from inside the car so I had to remove my heatercore and pipes as well. To fit the new union, I had to trim the insulation a little bit.

I think you identified them all, at least on a 98 S70 GLT. However, I'm not sure I have 2 hoses between motor & turbo but I'll check. I was assuming I just have the inlet hose attached to short pipe with Banjo bolt end; then the short hose to the Turbo line rail. I know there is a second pipe with Banjo bolt which must be coolant out from turbo, just didn't check that - yet - to see if it attaches to another hose.
Check this post for an excellent writeup by cn90 on replacing the Turbo coolant hoses.

Volvo OEM only on these hoses please......no URO stuff.
Those heater hoses run about 125 USD each...ouch. I replaced both of mine.

Have a look at the hoses from http://www.do88.se although the postage might be too much all the way from Sweden to USA, great quality and you don't have to have the blue coloured versions, they do a range that are standard black, IPD+ also do some of the silicon hoses but I have no experience as to how well they last.
As for clamps have a look at These as they will never rust and are better than any of the Jubilee/ worm drive clamps, the W5 that I have linked to is probably the dearest version they make, the W1 being the cheaper mild steel clamp of a similar design - Great clamps for turbo hoses as well due to the increased area the clamp bites in to the pipe offering better retention that the normal style clamp - Mike

Have not got these hoses replaced yet but I tell you, I am blessed.
Stepped out of a place that I had lunch at with my wife and seen some water looking stuff at my passenger side front tire. Decided to pop the hood and check my car for leaks. Looked on the back side of the motor and seen a puddle of coolant on my heat shield. My turbo coolant line was weeping. My coolant reservoir was about 6 ounces low. Made it home and replaced the darn thing. I'm so glad it didn't burst while driving down the freeway.
Check, no replace your old coolant hoses before they destroy your motor.

Hey. Should I drain both the radiator and the block before replacing the turbo coolant hoses? After draining coolant, will there still be a lot of spillage when replacing these hoses?
Thanks.
Thanks.
