1996 960 Brake Proportioning Valve

Post by davolvo »

Will it ever end? Now I need the brake proportioning valve. I am going through brake fluid regularly and had everything else checked. I cannot find one for under $150. I was told maybe the valve could just be adjusted? What are your thoughts? $150 is half of a weeks wages. :(

Is the valve leaking visibly?

Your info seems to point to brake fluid loss you can't find. A proportioning valve for rear brakes that causes fluid loss would have to leak fluid externally.
Has the master cylinder been pulled to see if it is one that can leak fluid into master cylinder? The smaller diameter double diaphragm boosters on wagons is sealed but some of the single diaphragm boosters are not and fluid can accumulate in booster with no visible external leak.

I have a wagon proportioning valve but I'm not sure if it is the same as sedans. I'm fairly certain the control pressure level is higher for wagons but probably nothing that would ever be noticed.

Where would this proportioning valve be located on the car? I have a 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon with ABS.

The mechanic said that it is located right under the brake fluid container, which makes sense because the frame below is full of brake fluid. I have found some that are specifically for the rear or front but mine regulates both. Oh my...
