97 v40 1.9 td - white smoke at start up & service light?

Post by greenV40 »

hi, new here.

I've owned an early 97 1.9 td indirect injection turbo, 8 valves, for the past 3 years. its a left hooker as we live in france now.

The car puffs white smoke at start up, until warm. also of late has rough idle at start up. car has fvsh.

I've tried injection cleaner, i've also tried wynns oil additive and it seems better but still puffs the white smoke.

I thought it could be any of the following; turbo oil seals (assuming the turbo bearing is oil lubricated?) - valve stem seals, piston ring wear.

I thought about trying a thicker oil, something like 15/40 semi or a 20/50 semi high mileage oil - although i've currently got 120K miles on the clock and didnt think i should do so withoutmoe info.

any ideas folks?

also the service light is on although it recently had it's major service with timing belt done etc. the garage cant get it to go off, or so they say. they also dont know why its smoking on start up. the service light - is there a way to cancel this? (bridging terminals or some such thing in the service computer plug in socket?)

also - on the front of the engine there's a filter can which i think is a breather pcv, there's a pipe from the head to the can and a return from it to the block. it's leaking oil, it was replaced in 2003 - could this have anything to do with the white smoke? is it the pcv? if blocked could this cause oil to seep past the rings?

lastly; does anyone have this v40 haynes manual? http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stor ... &langId=-1
if so can you please tell me if it covers my 1.9 td engine (1870cc i think)

right, nuff for now - hope someone can help me out.

cheers

:? Hi friend of mine.....

What can I do..... about yuor "smoked"problems???

I can evidence You, that it's possible that some oil of your engine box blows out from some mechanicals parts ..... and it burn with the gas in the combustion !

I propouse you:
1.Look at the oil level
2.Try to buy an oil additive.....to mix with your existant motor oil.
Try Ceramic Power Liquid (R)...
