2007 C30 Steering Coupler stiff

Post by pbanyard »

The steering is stiff, especially going straight. My mechanic says I need a new steering coupler which is only comes as part of the complete steering column. The cost is more than $1,000.00 for the part alone. Does anyone know of any alternatives to buying a complete steering column?

thanks

Is it the one right on top of the steering rack? Maybe you can disconnect the steering shaft under the dash (on bolt), then remove the dust boot on the floor and you get access to it. With the shaft disconnected, you will be able to swing the coupler all sides while shooting some Lubricating Liquid Wrench (lubricating one, not the penetrating one). Once loosen up, spread with grease.
