01 Volvo s40 computer problems

Didn't know if anyone else has had this problem when my car is cold it always cranks fine. But somtimes when i have been driving it not all the time it will start run real bad and when I go to give the gas it dies.
I can unplug the computer on the passenger side by the shifter console an plug it back in an it runs fine. It's been Doing this for atleast a year an hasn't gotten any worse I figured the ECM must be bad but figured id ask to see what y'all think.

Best to start by getting your fault codes read with an OBDII.
