2006 S40 check engine light fuel type coorelation

Post by ssalern »

Hey all, I am a new member actually still trying to purchase a Volvo S40. I am currently looking at a 2006 Volvo S40 T5 with manual transmission but when I went to see it at the dealership the check engine light was on. Upon asking the salesman he did not know the exact cause, only that it had recently come on. Nothing on the carfax about it. I told him to check with a mechanic and the next day he tells me that after checking over the engine the only problem was that the last person to fill it used unleaded fuel when it should have super and this can sometimes cause the light to come on, and then subsequently reset the CEL. With a little research I found a couple of cases of this happening with this make and model, but I want to make sure. Is he just trying to scam me??

It would be best to have the code that was stored.
Regular vs premium wouldn't cause this but E85 fuel added would. This is if this is the code I think it is.
